Preparing for a Move
- Go through your items. Donate or give away items you don't plan or want to bring or have a yard Sale.
- Come up with a move date. If you plan to use Professional Movers (like Jubilee City Movers), make sure to verify move date with the Moving Company.
- Plan the layout of your new home ahead of time.
- Buy packing supplies which include boxes, lots of tape, and markers for labeling your boxes.
- Plan where you or your movers can park to load and unload. The quickest route to and from the truck will save you time and money.
- Ensure the path to and from the home is clear for safety purposes.
- If you have children, make sure they know the new address and phone number as soon as possible.
- Contact utility companies to have services transferred/terminated.
- Contact creditors, banks, etc., to provide them with your new address.
- Unplug/disconnect electronics (TV's, game consols, computers, etc.) before the movers arrive to save time.
- Copy instructions for home systems (heat, AC, security, etc.) and gather paperwork (manuals, warranties, guarantees, etc.) for the new owners. This includes alarm codes if necessary! Ask/request the owners of your new home to do the same.
- Gather important documents, precious items, and banking items to take with you.
- If you have pets, consider boarding them during the loading/unloading process not only to avoid unnecessary stress to them or others but for the safety of yourself or the movers.
